School Activities

Don has been coordinating and running Education Outside the Classroom activities for school students for 20 years.

Individualised development is important and outdoor recreation gives students the chance to grow in confidence and achieve both group and individual goals. This leads to optimised learning and success.

Whether it is running a 2-hour abseil or kayak session for primary schools, organising a multi-day end of year adventure course for school leavers, or teaching about vulcanology and botany, Don has been there. Education is an important part of the Adventure Dynamics philosophy.

Many activities in the outdoors can be linked to the school curriculum, particularly the Health and Physical Education National Curriculum. Adventure Dynamics can also deliver and assess Outdoor Recreation Unit Standards.

NZQA Unit Standards

With National Certificates in Educational Achievement (NCEA) featuring in secondary schools, unit standards in Outdoor Recreation can not only boost the credit achievements of many students, some unit standards are also eligible for STAR funding.

SFRITO (Sport, Fitness and Recreation Industry Training Organisation) is developing a National Certificate in Outdoor Recreation, level 2. The certificate will be 20 credits with a choice of units at level 1 and 2. The National Certificate could be very achievable over a period of time -1 or 2 years - for many students.

Adventure Dynamics is able to deliver and assess a big range of units. School timetabling often prohibits Outdoor Education, but Adventure Dynamics could possibly design a programme to suit your students and the school.

Don is a SFRITO workplace assessor. This means that Don can assess staff, which are registered as workplace trainees with SFRITO, and are eligible for funding to train towards National Certificates in Outdoor Leadership.

Safety Management

Adventure Dynamics can assist in the development of Safety Management Plans and can run Safety and Risk Management courses for students, staff and outdoor leaders.

Adventure Dynamics has been contracted over the last two years to run refresher courses for one local high school, for the staff that run end of year activities.
